According to a local tourism website, the most popular tourist attractions (in terms of attendance in 2005) are, in order:

1. Navy Pier (8,620,000)

2. Wrigley Field (3,099, 000)

3. Lincoln Park Zoo (3,000,000)

4. Those Chicago Trolly things (2,850,000).

5. Millenium Park (2,750,000)

6. U.S. Cellular Field (2,342,000)

7. Shedd Aquarium (1,877,000)

8. Brookfield zoo (1,872,000)

9. Museum of Science and Industry (1,807,000)

10. Art Institue of Chicago (1,388,000)

Others: Field Museum (1,337,000), Sears Tower skydeck (1,300,000).

Though it's not officially part of the city, Great America in Gurnee had 2,800,000 visitors.

Although these numbers are from 2005, I don't think a whole lot had changes in only a couple of years.

Now, to me, "must see" is different than "top 10". To me, "must see" places include the Chicago History Museum (to learn about the city), the Taste of Chicago festival in the summer, the Signature room at the top of the John Hancock, the lakefront bike path and beaches and any of the summer neighborhood street festivals

If you want to know where the tourists go, the biggest attractions are, in no particular order:

1. Navy Pier

2. Sears Tower

3. Field Museum

4. Shedd Aquarium

5. Magnificent Mile

6. American Girl Place

7. Museum of Science and Industry

8. Hancock Building

9. Millennium Park

10. Art Institute of Chicago

While the sports teams draw lots of people, the vast majority of the attendees at these games are either 1) area residents 2) guests of area residents 3) former area residents. So I didn't include them here. But there are substantial numbers of out of towners at all local professional sports team games. So you could include the Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, and Hawks here as well.
