I'm not too far from Chicago. I like big cities, and have traveled a lot. I've been to big cities like New York, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Lexington, Nashville, Philidelphia, D.C., Detroit, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio, Phoenix, Houston, LA, Las Vegas, San Diego, Maui, and others. I've also been all over Europe. I haven't been to Chicago since I was very young. I appreciate almost all cities and what is unique about them, but I just have this feeling like Chicago might be overrated. Are there really things you can do in Chicago that you can't do other places, or is the atmosphere really that great?

I find it ammusing that the first answer to your questions sites a chain as a unique experience.

Growing up in western SD, most of what I heard about Chicago was that it was a large industrial city. Nothing special other then its huge size.

Now I have planned two trips there (one I went on the other had to change plans due to a wedding). I think the city does have unique experiences to offer as well as a unique character. The sporting venues in the city are national treasures, the water front appears to be amazing offering tourists and residents ample oppurtunity for new things. If you are interested in theatre, go to the Shakespeare theatre which is in the navy pier area. If you are interested in shopping go to the Downtown Marshall Field's store. If you are interested in tv, visit one of the many shows taped in the Chicago area.

The unique aspect of Chicago is its relative newness as well as it being the second (and now third city) city of the country. This feeling permeates throughout the town and continually attempts to compete with the larger profile cities of NY and LA.

Chicago is great. It is just like any other big city, but the people have the mid-western hospitality and aren't rude like in NY or LA. Relativly safe for a big city also. There is so much to do...even just a day of walking down a street and checking out all the little shops and great architechture the city is well known for.

Zambrano. He supposed to be the Cubs "#1" , their ace. He is so terribly inconsistent. After the 2004 season, I thought he was on the upswing. He was 16-8, era 2.75, so 188, bb 81. Last season he went 18-13, a career high for wins. His era was 3.95 and he walked 101. The year before he walked over 100 too. He's still young but hasn't progressed in my opinion. He has to show he isn't a head case. Right now if the Cubs faced a must win game and I could choose any of their starters, it wouldn't be him.

Chicago is great. In the last 2 years I've gone to the Field museum, the museum of science and industry twice, the shed aquarium, and also Navy Pier a bunch of times. there's always stuff goin on there. if you like Big cities you'll love chicago. The field museum is one of the best museums in the country and the shedd aquarium is the world's largest indoor aquarium. Oh yeah i forgot to mention some of the best pizza in the world.

Chicago has some really fun things to do, such as The Rainforest Cafe and The Museum of Science and Industry. It's a good place to visit, not really to live though... Try the pizza.
